On
Saturday, April 12, Lodge 644 held its third Annual Fun Day at St.
Michael Parish Center in Akron. It was very well attended and all
enjoyed an evening of friendly competition along with plenty of delicious
food. The only disappointment was that the evening had to come to
an end. President Bunnie Hivko organized the event and we commend
her for a job well done.
We take pride in writing about the many
fine things done by our members in keeping Lodge 644 active, but
occasionally we bring sad news in announcing those who have passed
away. We recently lost four members in a very short period of time
and we extend sympathies to the families and friends of Anna Ruckman
(February 26), Irene Zupko (April 15), Julia “Jay” Marunich
(April 19) and Viola Pleskach (April 23). Please remember them in
your prayers.
On April 21 Lodge 644 was recognized by the Salvation
Army at a Volunteer Appreciation Reception held at St. Joseph Melkite
Hall in Akron. Lodge 644 has been an annual volunteer for the Christmas
Salvation Army Kettle Drive and our members continue to make this
activity a huge success. Pat Keblesh, chairperson of this program,
was invited to represent Lodge 644. It is gratifying to see how many
people in the Akron area give of themselves to aid those in need.
Our delegates are looking forward to the National Convention in Baltimore. This
is a great way to learn more about our fraternal society and meet other GCU delegates
from across the country.
