Lodge 390 - McKees Rocks, PA
Flag Day . On June 14 at Holy Ghost Church, Lodge 390 celebrated Flag Day. Lodge president Marge Beliunas welcomed and thanked all for participating in our first ever Flag Day ceremony. She also thanked our pastor, spiritual advisor and member of the GCU Supreme Tribunal, Fr. Frank Firko for his blessing and support of our first fraternal event of Flag Day.
The raising of both new American and Pennsylvania State flags, donated by PA State Representative Nick Kotik, was led by Fr. Firko and several military service veterans of the parish.
During the raising of both flags, all sang the Star Spangled Banner. At 7 pm, in harmony with the entire nation, the 31 st annual Pause for the Pledge of Allegiance began, as all present placed their hand over their hearts and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following the program, all were invited to the church hall for refreshments.
Divine Liturgy. July 5, 2010 Holy Ghost Church in McKees Rocks and Holy Ghost Church on the North Side of Pittsburgh combined to offer a Patriotic Divine Liturgy for the welfare and forgiveness of sins of the USA. The pastor, Rev. Fr. Frank A. Firko, celebrated the Divine Liturgy with responses being led by Mr. Steve Puluka and the epistle chanted by Luke Iyengar. Following the Divine Liturgy a luncheon sponsored by GCU Lodge 390 was held in the church hall. Hot dogs and hamburgers were provided, with parishioners supplying side dishes and desserts.
ByzanTEENS Reach the Rally. When the bake sales, halushki sales, and holupki sales still left them short of the money they needed to attend the ByzanTEEN rally in Erie, PA, the Holy Ghost Youth Group turned to Lodge 390 for help. With the lodge's donation added to the money they raised, five parish teens: Anita Iyengar, Luke Iyengar, Scott Saber, Max Puluka, and Elias Stebbins, attended the rally free of charge. "The rally was everything we hoped for and more. Thanks to the parish and the lodge our parents only had to provide transportation," Lodge 390 member Luke Iyengar stated. The Youth Group is now making plans to raise money to attend the next rally in San Diego in 2012.
