Scholarship Program:

  • GCU provides scholarship assistance to qualified members who are full-time students attending post-secondary educational institutions. The Scholarship Program is announced in the GCU Magazine in the fall of each year and on this web site. In addition to the National Scholarship many GCU Districts and Lodges also sponsor scholarship programs.

Sports Activities:

  • Bowling -- GCU sponsors bowling leagues throughout the country.
A National Bowling Tournament is held every year in May.
  • Junior Bowling -- A National Tournament is held for junior bowlers every year at sites throughout the country. Regional winners of the age 16-18 division compete for a national scholarship in July.
  • Golf -- A National Golf Tournament is held at the GCU Seven Oaks Country Club in Beaver, PA every year in July. Members enjoy the benefits of the club and its many amenities for a modest entry fee.

Junior Bowling Scholarship Rolloff:

  • The qualifying female and male winners of each District’s Junior National Bowling Tournament are entitled to compete in a Bowling Scholarship Rolloff held at a bowling center near the GCU Home Office in Beaver, Pennsylvania. The female and male champion each receives a $1,000.00 scholarship.

GCU Ski Outings:

  • Ski Outings are held each year to increase involvement of youth and younger families. Outings with skiing, snow boarding, and snow tubing are held in January-February at these locations:
  • EAST: Big Boulder Resort in the Poconos (GCU Districts 5-6-7)
  • CENTRAL: Hidden Valley Resort in the Laurel Mountains (GCU Districts 1-2-3-4-15)
  • WEST: Boyne Mountain in Michigan (GCU District 11)
  • The events are promoted as family activities. Youth members benefit from a discount on the cost of their lift and tubing tickets, and they will receive an appropriate gift. To promote fraternal camaraderie there is a special GCU common area (Ski Den’) where the group will have lunch and make new acquaintances.

Join Hands Day:

  • All Districts and Lodges are encouraged to take part in Join Hands Day, a unique youth-adult initiative sponsored by the National Fraternal Congress of America. The event is held in later spring/early summer as appropriate.
  • As a youth-adult initiative, Join Hands Day calls upon the energetic and enterprising youth, together with the adults who are older and more experienced to combine their talents in performing meaningful actions to benefit members, churches or communities

Community Service:

  • GCU members respond to others’ needs by participating in programs like walk-a-thons, food kitchens, health awareness, Special Olympics, homes for abused women, Children’s Hospital, and many others.

Charities:

  • Local lodges provide assistance to their churches, to health and community organizations, and to members who have experienced tragedy or disaster.

Byzantine Catholic Seminary:

  • The Saints Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Pittsburgh is the recipient of an annual GCU educational grant. GCU grants now total more than $2 million dollars.

Culture and Heritage

  • Mindful of its origins, GCU distributes special publications on Carpatho-Rusyn customs and traditions.
