The Month of May
by George N. Juba

Please be certain to remember that Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day, and to take time to honor your mother. If you are fortunate to have your mother living, make time to be with her—or if that is not possible, by all means contact her to let her know that you love her and that she will always be in your thoughts and prayers. For those whose mothers have passed onto eternity, pause for a quiet moment to think about your mother, pray that her memory be eternal, and thank God for the love and guidance that she gave to you.
Memorial Day comes at the end of May, and we as a nation owe a deep debt of gratitude to those men and women who made the supreme sacrifice of their life in service to our country. This unofficial beginning holiday of the summer season should never come without our thinking about its true purpose. We enjoy freedom today, because of those who have and continue to protect our nation through their service in the armed forces.
Our GCU National Bowling Tournament celebrates its 75th Anniversary this year as the annual classic is staged in the Pittsburgh area on May 13-14. One of the oldest bowling tournaments in the nation, the GCU National includes the usual competition along with a festive banquet, entertainment and lots and lots of fraternal camaraderie. We’ll see you there.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you should have any questions or additional concerns. Email gjuba@gcuusa.com or call 1-800-722-4428.

GCU National Bowling Tournament
by Judy Gula

Judith A. Gula

In May GCU bowlers will come together for the National Bowling Tournament to be held at the AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. This event will take place on May 13 and 14.
This year we will be celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the National Bowling Tournament. A Saturday evening banquet will mark this memorable occasion. It will be a good time for all. If you are a bowler, please join us and share in fraternalism among the members of the GCU.
Always remember that not only do we have great rates with our Annuity products, but we also have many fraternal opportunities for you and your family.
Just a quick note to let you know that our first quarter financial numbers for 2011 are being processed and they look great. These figures will be reported to our members via the web-site and through our June print Magazine.
Thank you for your support.

5498 - IRA Contribution Information
by John Harbist

GCU is mandated by Internal Revenue Service to file a form 5498 by May 31, 2011 with each person (copy to IRS) for whom we have maintained any IRA in 2010.
This form is to be used to report regular and rollover contributions made on IRA plans, including Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) and Savings Incentive Match Plan for Employees (SIMPLE) in 2010 through April 15, 2011.  The Statement will also disclose the fair market value (December 31, 2010 balance).
To any member that receives a 5498 statement, we recommend that you review the contribution amount and the fair market value.
Contact my office in the event we need to make any corrections.

Fred Petro2010 Annual Fraternal Report - A Synopsis
by Christie Petty

How does GCU positively impact our society? The full report will be in the June print issue of GCU Magazine, but for now I am providing a sneak peek of the numbers from 2010:

  • Our Lodges and Districts held over 1,900 activities and events, volunteered over 73,600 hours of service and donated more than $153,000 to various charitable causes.
  • These efforts benefited local churches, local communities, families, national non-profit organizations, as well lodge members by providing social or athletic opportunities.

Thank You to our strong body of involved members. Keep up the Good Work!
If you are not yet involved in local activities with your GCU lodge, then contact me at cpetty@gcuusa.com, and I will help you find a way to be a part of it all.
