GCU District 2 held our District Junior Bowling Tournament on Saturday March 13, 2010 at Yough Lanes in Connellsville, PA. The event was organized by our President/Athletic Director Linda Sitko and Assistant Athletic Director Silvia Sitko. Linda presided over the tournament with 19 members from all four district lodges attending.
    Our eight competing children were from Leisenring’s Lodge 18 and Donora’s Lodge 76. Lodge 18 participants were from St. Stephen Byzantine Catholic Church in Leisenring, PA and included Sydney Pletcher, Owen Hardy, Emily Homer, Abbey Sitko and Hailey Sitko. Lodge 76 participants were the Peters children Lauren, Trip and Lesley from St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church in Harrisburg, PA. The contestants were placed in categories determined by gender and age. Between games refreshments were served to the children. Food included chicken strips, potato wedges, soda and chips.
     At the conclusion of the tournament Linda Sitko addressed the children and recognized their achievements. The champions in the girls divisions were: Sydney Pletcher-girls ages 6-7; Emily Homer-girls 10-12 and Lauren Peters-girls 16-18. The champions in the boys divisions were: Owen Hardy-boys 10-12 and Trip Peters-boys 13-15.
     Linda called each child who participated in the tournament individually and presented them with a trophy. The participating children also received a bowling ball cover and a gift card to McDonald’s or Dairy Queen.
     During the children’s tournament several adults bowled non-competitively. Adult bowlers were Helen R. Gaskey, Jamie Tozser, Barbara Timo, Meribeth Peters and Ann Swanson. Our Secretary Barbara Timo finished with the highest score.
