District 11

     Sunday, March 14, District 11’s Charity Bowling Tournament took place at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights, MI where 35 people helped collect  $800 (with matching funds) for the Gleaners Community Food Bank. This year a 9 pin no/tap format was used. This means that if you bowled 9 pins on your first ball, it was still considered a strike. Following the bowling, the participants were able to partake in the all you care to eat salad, pizza, brownies and liquid refreshments in the banquet room.
     For the high series with handicap winners were Anita Burck with a 721 and Gary Mozuras with a 887. The high series without handicap winners were Annette Mathewson with a 520 and Mark Shubeck with a 797 including a 300 game. The winners for the high game with handicap were Helen Minarish with a 259 and Leonard Hempel Jr. with a 308. The high game actual winners were Rose Shubeck with a 194 and John L. Minarish with a 266. The blind doubles winners were Leonard R. Hempel and John L. Minarish.  Congratulations to all the winners and participants for taking part in the charity bowling tournament.
     On Saturday, March 20, District 11 hosted its Junior Bowling Tournament for youth up to 18 years of age. The event for the Detroit area was held at Pampa Lanes in Warren, MI. Bumper bowling was used for children nine years and younger. Following the tournament came the awards presentation and pizza lunch in the Club Room. For the age group of 2 to 3 the winners were Christopher Hycki and Chloe Allen; ages 4 to 5: Gabriel Nagrant and Ava Moore; 1ages 6 to 7:Bryan Dahn and Arianna Kosa; ages 8 to 9: Ryan Serafin and Zoe Moore; ages 10 to 12: Paul Farkas and Ann Tomczak; ages 13 to15: Nicholas Serafin and Christina Ridella; ages 16 to 18: Austin Radell and Kimberly Kaufman—their scores will be forwarded for the national qualification in which the winners are awarded a scholarship. It is worth mentioning that Gabriel and Isiaah Nagrant came from the Cleveland area to participate in this Junior Bowling Tournament.
     Congratulations to all of the junior bowlers. Also, many thanks to the District Athletic Director George Nagrant for doing such a wonderful job in organizing these two events.   Upcoming district events include a golf scramble, the hoops contest along with the tailgate party before going to the Tiger game, and don’t forget to think about going to Boyne Mountain  next January for the national sponsored ski weekend.
