Free-Throw Contest. On Saturday, April 5, 2008 , District
1 held its annual basketball free-throw contest at Holy Ghost parish,
McKees Rocks. Start time was at 1:00 p.m. ; however, the children
began arriving at 12:00 to practice. Twenty-four children and adults
participated in this event. With the help of District 1 officers,
Ed Roman and Jim Howell oversaw the foul shooting competition.
While the scores were tallied,
refreshments were served: pizza, cookies, and pop. Thanks to Lodge
390 for organizing the food; every year, they buy the most delicious
pizza from a local shop.
After eating, the winners were announced:
Boys age 9-11 Brendan Howell, ages 12-15 Mark Brooks. With fewer
girl participants, the District was able to award trophies to 2
nd and 3 rd places also. Girls age 9-11 Jamie Skreptach first, Anita
Iyengar second & Courtney
Roman third. Age 12-15 Emily Blatnica first and Kirsten Gondol second.
The adult winners were Ed Roman, John Gondol, Anthony
Blatnica, Bob Mitrik, and Maria Iyengar.
Even if you do not want to participate,
plan to join us next year to fraternalize and to help cheer on the kids of all
ages.
