On
Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17, 2008 GCU Lodge 2 sponsored
a bus trip for the lodge members, family, and friends to Seneca-Niagara
and Presque Isle Downs in Erie. The group was led by Joan P. Bodnar.
In total 33 lodge members, family, and friends
took an overnight trip to Seneca Niagara and then stopped on the way home the
next day at Presque Isle Downs. It was a very nice weekend for the attendees
who wanted to enjoy a little gaming and relaxation.
On Saturday, April 12 and
Saturday, April 19, 2008 the GCU Lodge 2 in conjunction with the AARP sponsored
the 55 Alive Driver’s Safety
Program. The course took place in the lower level of the St. John’s
Cathedral from 9 am to 1 pm . With the Lodge president Robert E. Bodnar
in charge eleven other people also signed up for the course.
The course
was designed for any person age 55 and older that wanted to brush up
on their driving skills. If both husband and wife drive, it was highly
recommended that they both take the course.
During the course the attendees
received a review of driving skills. Most insurance companies give a discount
on car insurance once the course in completed. This is an eight hour course but
it was broken down into two, four-hour courses. Participants had to attend both
days in order to receive the Certificate of Completion. The certification is
good for three years and then it must be renewed again after three years to get
the insurance discount.
