Spring began with the annual American Cancer Society Daffodil Days fund raiser. Our volunteers from District 5 wrapped, delivered, and sold daffodils and bears to benefit this worthy cause, March 24-28. Volunteers included, but not limited to, were: Dolores Mokay, Toppy Zayac, Melissa Gambal, Janice Dragan, and the Dolinish family, Alice, Ed Sr., Ilona, Tanya, Ed Jr., and Gina Keil.
Our Scranton and Wilkes-Barre Junior Bowling tournaments were held in their respective locations on March 30 and April 5.Combined with the earlier Binghamton tournament, the district had 68 participants. Congratulations to Melanie Mizenko and Ed Dolinish,III, who will represent our district during Family Fun week in Beaver. Best of luck to them both.

On Friday night, April 4th, our district had 43 fans attend the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hockey game against the Springfield Falcons. The Penguins had a decisive victory. Hopefully, they can continue their winning ways as they progress thru the playoffs toward the Calder Cup.

Several of our bowlers traveled to West Hazleton, PA to participate in District 6's No Tap Tournament. Some people were lucky enough to be paired with the right partner to achieve victory and take home some cash. A delicious buffet at the Safe Harbor Lighthouse concluded our evening. Thanks District 6 for your hospitality.

Our first Adopt-a-Highway pickup of the year was held on Saturday, April 19. We had a few new faces, Crystal Vladika, Adrianna Vladika, and Kaitlyn Washo. We really appreciate all the help received from our volunteers to keep our environment clean. Ed Dolinish Jr. will be in touch as to when our next pickup will be. Everyone is welcome. We can always use more volunteers.
By the time this article is published, the National Bowling Tournament will have been held. Our district was well represented with 20 bowlers, along with several guests. We wished our bowlers good luck before they left. This is a great time to socialize with other members of the GCU, whom we may only see during bowling tournaments.
The pre-convention meeting for all delegates was held on May 30 at Anna Maria's Restaurant in Dunmore . Our National President, George Juba, informed the delegates about what the Board of Directors is recommending by the way of Resolutions and By-Law amendments for the good of the GCU. The convention will be held in Baltimore , June 29-July 2.
Items of Note. Sympathy is extended to our chaplain Fr. Gary Mensinger on the passing of his brother Robert. Eternal Memory!
Get well wishes are extended to all who have been ill recently. Active members who have been hospitalized include Bernie Shinko, Irene Juba, Helen Bereznak, and George Kofel. Speedy recovery to all.
