On
the afternoon of Sunday, March 9, 2008 , District 1 held its annual
tournament at the Brunswick Playmor Bowl in West Mifflin . Sixty-four
children registered and participated in this event. Depending on the
child’s
age, one, two or three games of bowling were played. While the children
were bowling, door prizes were awarded to many lucky youth.
Even if
you did not win a door prize, you were still given a gift: Kohl’s
donated a variety of stuffed animals. During bowling, every child was
able to select from the variety. A cute sight was seeing the little
ones carry the animals with them; they would not let them out of their
sight.
Following bowling, everyone went to St. Elias church
hall for the awards presentation, prizes, and refreshments. A craft table was
set up so that the children could create their own Easter decorations.
The refreshments were served first: pizza, snacks, cake and pop. Following
this, National Officer Kitty Cherevka began announcing the results
while Athletic Director Mike Pillar handed out the trophies. The winners
of the events are listed separately in the Magazine.
The day ended
with many happy faces leaving the church hall. Thanks to all the district officers
and volunteers who worked to help to make this a success.
